River Chess Forum

October 24, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

A public River Chess Forum event will take place in Chesham in support of the World Wildlife Fund’s “Nature Needs You” campaign.

“Right now our rivers are acting as drains. Raw sewage is being pumped into them and an alarming 80% across England and Wales are failing health standards. Many rivers are also at risk from having too much water taken out of them, leaving too little for wildlife to thrive.” (Source: WWF)

The open meeting will take place on the 24th October at Chesham Town Hall (HP5 1DS), starting at 6.30pm. There will be representatives from several orgnanisations, including the Environment Agency, Thames Water, Affinity Water, the Angling Trust and the World Wildlife Fund. Issues to be discussed include the current study on low flows in the Chess in Chesham, water use efficiency and water meters and the upgrade to Chesham Sewage Treatment Works. We’ll be looking at risks to the Chess, such as HS2, pollution and abstraction, but we’ll also be sharing good news stories for the river, including this year’s water vole population count and some of the amazing bird life living along the river.

The meeting, which is being organised by the River Chess Association and its sister organisation, Impress the Chess, is open to any interested members of the public.
