We would like to introduce you to Alex. He’s a young entrepreneur who has come up with a new idea to embrace all the good things about Chesham.
Louise asked him all about his new project that could help many businesses and residents.
How long have you been in Chesham?
I have lived in Chesham my whole life, 22 years!
How did you decide to set up in Chesham?
I don’t think that everyone in Chesham fully appreciates the full scope of what the town has to offer – my idea is all about raising awareness around this. Mytownoffers is all about giving Chesham a sense of belonging; by making the amazing things happening locally more visible, and by strengthening the connections within our community to encourage people to buy and shop local. It’s effectively a website where local businesses (of all industries and sizes) can advertise and promote their brands to Chesham residents – all in one place. It’s basically a simple way of showing what ‘Chesham has to offer’ to everyone.
What would surprise your customers to know about you / your company?
One key thing is that mytownoffers is not actually all about ‘deals and offers’ – although this is a large part of it. The site also lists other useful information, such as local events and jobs. But the main purpose is it gives all types of businesses (whether it’s High Street based shops, local trade, or independent people working on their own projects) a way of pulling all their great brands together to help Chesham residents discover new local businesses in a modern and engaging way.
It’s worth noting that it’s currently free to have your business on the site, so what’s not to like?!
What is the best thing about being based in Chesham?
A lot of people have already mentioned this but for me it’s probably the location. We are very close to London, but still based in the countryside – so we get the best of both worlds. Chesham is also a good-sized town, not too big but not too small, this helps add to the strong sense of community, and also means we can all benefit from the vast amounts of independent shops, each with something different to offer.
New developments for this month?
Where to start! This month is going to be especially busy. For me it’s going to be all about trying to meet and signup as many Chesham businesses to the site as possible, because in order for mytownoffers to be a success we need the whole town to come together and want to join in. Once we’ve got a strong number of people promoting their local businesses/brands on the site we will begin advertising mytownoffers to Chesham residents – there’s a long way to go but I really believe that once the site is launched live to the public it could become a great way of helping to promote locality and Chesham as a town!
