We spoke to Laura from Orbit Press about the new Museum developments….she explains….
“Well it’s been a long time coming but I can finally report the information panels and display case are all in situ and have been enjoyed by those who have seen them for a few months now.
Jane MacBean and I worked on the Heritage lottery grant back in late 2017 early 2018, the funding finally came through mid 2018 so we could get going with the work around August 2018. Richard Brock kindly did all the artwork for us for the information panels and Steve Lumby did a fabulous design for the display case which Trevor Jones was able to produce for us.
On a rather gloomy day, Nigel Brand, Jane MacBean (Mayor at the time) and trustees, Andrew Ketteringham, Laurence Sharp and myself all helped to install the panels in their four different locations around the town. Have you seen them yet? We have one outside the Town Hall, The Elgiva Theatre, and outside Workaid in Townsend Road. Lastly we have one inside the main corridor of The White Hill Centre. Each panel gives a brief history relating to the building it’s attached to. I’ll say no more and hope that you can go and visit them!
The display case was installed in Chesham Library just to the left, inside the main front door. Our first display put together by our lovely new curators Angus and Julia was all about the Chesham Bank Notes. We also had a fabulous launch and unveiling of the display case by Jane MacBean back in early May, one of her last duties as Mayor.
The following exhibition in the display case is about Chesham’s Fire Brigade, The display at the Elgiva has also changed to show Chesham’s Carnival over the year’s. All at Chesham Museum hope you enjoy the new displays”.
